The Azure Dynamic Gateway's Point-to-Site VPN should allow the laptops to connect directly to the Cloud, but does not do so by IP address, DNS name, or Azure Availability Set name. Since this feature is still in Preview Mode, we cannot obtain troubleshooting to determine why none of those three addressing methods work. Azure Endpoints do not support the GRE protocol (required by PPTP) or IPsec protocols (required by L2TP), if we build an Azure VM with the 2012 Remote Access Role to provide ourown VPN for Windows 7 clients.
Until the Dynamic Gateway feature is functioning, the Azure Cloud platform cannot server as a Disaster Site backup (when the main office is closed), because out-of-office computers cannotdirectly connect to the Azure Virtual Network. Since our office is located in New Orleans, we must have this failover capability for each Summer's Hurricane Season.
