VNET to VNET Bandwidth when using ExpressRoute

Hi all,

When using Express Route and configuring multiple VNET's for that circuit, what type of bandwidth should be expect for inter-VNET communications?

Our goal is to leverage the benefits of both separate VNETs and ExpressRoute while still allowing fast VM-to-VM communication for large file transfers.

Background:

We are aware that VNET-to-VNET capability is available when using VPNs but that it utilizes the VNET gateway to establish IPsec tunnels and is limited to about 100Mbps of performance. We are currently looking at ExpressRoute.

As all VNET's connected to an ExpressRoute Circuit within the same Zone/continent are on the same routing domain, per MSDN documentation, it appears that we do not need to deploy the VNET-to-VNET configuration for VNETs connected to the same ExpressRoute circuit for inter-VNET communications. As such, we are curious to see what the inter-VNET performance will be, and if it is still tied at 100Mbps. We would also like to know what the performance would be outside of the continent, such as if we have VNET’s in Europe connected to the same circuit as VNET’s in the US.

Thank you,
