Installed a Virtual Network, all options default, setup Gateway, created and uploaded Certs, downloaded 64 bit VPN client.  Windows 7, fully patched, AV client disabled.

When I attempt to connect I get:

Access is denied.

I see many similar posts, but no answers.  Has anyone gotten Point-to-Site to connect?  Is this not supported in the free trial and MSDN accounts?

Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain.

How does username and/or password make any sense?  It hasn't asked for any credentials, it just fails.

Cross premise connectivity - issues in resolving to on-premise DNS

I have setup point to site connectivity between my on-premise network and Azure VM instances. I My point to site connectivity works to the extent I can RDP in to Azure VM with a private IP from on-premise machine. I am trying to add one of my Azure VM server as member of my Active Directory domain located in my on-premise network. (And promote this machine as one more domain controller part of my on-premise AD). DNS setting in Azure VM is pointing to my On-premise DNS server Private IP (configured via Virtual network settings in Azure portal) . For some reason the name resolution does not work from Azure VM and it fails to join the domain..Any idea what is going on here?  How do I troubleshoot this further?

Thanks

Packet Loss in WestEU?

$

We're seeing intermittent packet loss on our Virtual Networks in the West EU Azure site.

We have a decent number of VMs deployed into a VNet supporting our Development and QA functions.  It appears that starting sometime last night, and continuing this morning, we're seeing anywhere from 30% to 50% packet loss between the VMs in the same VNet.

This is the second time we've seen this issue in the last month.

This is obviously causing pretty much all of our DNS lookups and communication between our services to fail.

Is anyone else seeing this, or does anyone from MS have information on this issue?

PPTP on Azure

Hello:

How i can set a virtual machine in Azure and configure it as virtual private network server?

I'm involved in a cloud project that need a VPN server. A big number of IP devices dial-up to VPN server in a data center to create a big private network with the cloud servers in the data center. Later, we connect to all devices to manage their states, operations, etc.

¿It's possible to migrate this scenario to Azure? ¿Are all Azure servers connected to a private network? ¿It's possible to create a PPTP service in Azure?

Thanks a lot.

Note: The VPN of azure it's not a option because is a big number of devices and this VPN is to expensive (it's designed for site to site VPN)

Hello,

In my virtual network, I have configured the VPN point-to-site without problems.

Now I'm also trying to configure the VPN site-to-site but I'm not able to check the box to activate this function ...

Somebody know why ?

Thanks in advance.

Cannot RDP from on-prem machine to Azure VM while using point-to-site VPN (or vice-versa)

I'm trying to RDP from on-prem machine to Azure VM (or vice-versa) while using point-to-site VPN.

I have finished the configuration of the VPN (downloaded the VPN exe from the management portal --> ran it successfully and it says connected to VPN on my on-prem machine) but cannot ping nor RDP from one point to the other either way.

Any help would be appreciated!

after creating a virtual machine what should I do for making an html file externally visible

I have followed some tutorials, as a result I have on the Server Manager Dashboard AD DS, DNS, File and Storage Services, IIS, Local Server.

To try IIS I made a simple HTML file using notepad , it is located at c: inetpub\wwwroot (path that was made automatically)

I pointed the virtual machine internet explorer  to localhost and it rendered my file.

But this file is not visble for my local pc internet explorer when I point to <my>.cloudapp.net or when I point to the IP address of the virtual machine

I need to know the basic steps to see what is wrong or lacking

I found this warning when testing the website

The server is configured to use pass-through authentication with a built-in account to access the specified physical path. However, IIS Manager cannot verify whether the built-in account has access. Make sure that the application pool identity has Read access to the physical path. If this server is joined to a domain, and the application pool identity is NetworkService or LocalSystem, verify that <domain>\<computer_name>$ has Read access to the physical path. Then test these settings again.

Internal IP Address now non routable, new VM's not appearing in Virtual Network, Resources

Hi,

Something has happened to my Azure network.  Yesterday I added a point to site connectivity in my only virtual network.  Today I wanted to go one better and do site to site with Direct Access.

My old vm's had an internal ip address of 10.0.0.x, my new vm's i created today now have an internal ip address of 100.80.114.x.

When I try to add my 100.80.114.x vm to my domain with a dc running on 10.0.0.x it times out (non routable)

Now I see that an affinity group is linked to this.  I have 2 affinity groups so I made a new VM in each yet they both are assigned to this wrong subnet.

you will note that the new resources are not showing up under the virtual network even though VPN-STS is in the same affinity group.

Virtual Network - Gateway Subnet in Virtual Network Address Space

I'm doing some hands on regarding p2s VPN and have a few questions. Tried to search on internet but can't get any info.

Wondering if you can explain me:

I notice that only when we define p2s or s2s, there's option to create gateway subnet on the virtual address space. And that's only one gateway subnet per virtual network address space

a) What's exactly the gateway subnet? What it is use for?
b) How does it different with Gateway IP Address on the "dashboard" tab?
c) I tried to create a VM on a subnet (say "FrontEnd Subnet) and try to ping the gateway subnet IP but it doesn't work. Is it supposed to be that way?

Is guidance available for configuring a site-to-site VPN between 2 Azure regions? Is there a way to extend your layer 2 network into Azure or between cloud services running in different regions?

Azure Virtual Network - Creating the gateway failed!

Hello Azure Community,

I have been attempting to create a Virtual Network with Site-to-Site connectivity and the process seems to be continually failing. My first error was"The creation of the gateway has failed please contact Support", but now I am getting a simple error message that states"Failed to create a gateway for virtual network 'Default'."

I decided to follow the tutorial on creating a Virtual Network with Site-to-Site exactly and have made sure my namespaces are correct and subnets are accurate but I was still receiving the same errors so I changed the address spaces around slightly. It seems either my configuration is incorrect or there may be a bug in the creation process itself. Any help would be appreciated.

Virtual Network Dashboard Status

Weird one this, not a problem but a curiosity. I've created a site-to-site between Azure and my OnPrem home lab environment, connectivity is fine but looking at the Dashboard is saysCONNECTING when in fact it is connected.

Like I said this isn't a problem for my POC environment at home but thinking when I take the next step and raise the appropriate changes within the live environment I can see the service teams raising a query on this when I demo.

Suddenly, cannot VPN from 3 locations: Custom script (to update your routing table) failed

Since this morning I'm having issues with the point-to-site VPN. I'm unable to connect to my virtual network and tried it from 3 different PC's, from 2 different networks (my home network and from another Azure VM).

PC1: Custom script (to update your routing table) failed (8007006f).
PC2: Custom script (to update your routing table) failed (80070490).
PC3: Custom script (to update your routing table) failed (80070490).

On PC3 I'm also receiving: "The service profile is damaged. Reinstall the service profile".

It's looking fine in the Azure Management Portal. I think it's a server-side issue. Can somebody help me?

Active Directory Replication across Regions

Hi guys,

I'm trying to configure two domain controllers for replication, while residing in separate regions / data centers (obviously they are on different virtual networks). The idea is to cut response times as we have many clients dispersed around the globe. I found some old requests that said it couldn't be done, but i'm hoping in the last 12 months things have changed.

Does anyone know how I would go about this? Surely this is something completely cloud based companies are going to want to do.

Packet Loss in East-Asia network

I am observing packet loss between two virtual machines in East-Asia nwtwork. Both are running WS2008R2,built in the same cloud service.Simple "ping -n 500" gives me packet loss of a few percent when my app is running at the same time (cpu load ~20%,bandwith < 10%).

I gave more details here and it is similiar problem as in WestEU network here.Since the packet loss problem is solved in WestEU network I have created new post for East-Asia network.
