Hi,

My ExpressRoute is up with BGP Established, but I have no idea why I only receive 0 prefix from Azure while I already create multiple subnet in Resource Group. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Traffic from VPN routing to VM

From Hafiz Arslan (@harslanhafeez) via Twitter who tweets:

“VPN successfully established. but now no traffic (data in/out). I can not ping other machine at 10.0.256.39 from 10.0.06? On portal it says connection succeed.”

Customer was sent the documentation on https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c3c30460-a7a3-413a-90d9-31cadcf8962b/unable-to-ping-an-azure-virtual-machine?forum=WAVirtualMachinesforWindows however this did not help the customer

The customer also added: “that's not, the issue is vpn is established and vm and gateway both are in same virtual network. now how traffic(coming from vpn) will route to virtual machine ??”

Azure Traffic Manager and DDoS Attacks

$

So I have my website set up, call it www.mywebsite.com. I have my Traffic Manager set up so that www.mywebsite.com points to mytrafficmanager.trafficmanager.com.

The Traffic Manager then points to my two on-premise web front-ends web1.mywebsite.com and web2.mywebsite.com. It also has an endpoint of a Azure Web App.

It is set up to do a Priority fail over: web1, then if that fails to web2, and if they are both down, to fail over to the Azure Web App.

My question is this: If I get a DDoS attack on www.mywebsite.com, what would happen? Would the on-premise servers go down, and then it would fail over to the Azure Web App (which is set up to scale appropriately to hopefully mitigate a DDoS attack). Or would it not be able to route the traffic properly?

Already have O365 trying to add Azure DNS

I am already using Office 365 and have all my stuff setup in there.  I want to add Azure DNS service.  I created a free trial account and set my same e-mail address as the admin.  Well, the password is different between the two logins now for some reason and I cannot connect to the DNS part via the CLI because it says: "No subscriptions found for this account".  Has anyone else seen this?

I am just about ready to say the heck with it and call up Amazon and use their cloud instead.

Blade not loading when editing a Load Balancer rule in Azure Portal

Hello,

I have been trying for several days to edit an existing Load Balancer rule in the Azure Portal (ARM) but the opening blade doesn't load, showing the error "LoadBalancerRulesEditPart" and right under "MICROSOFT_AZURE_NETWORK" and the icon of a dark cloud with a drop of rain (I made a screenshot but I can't upload it until my account is verified).

I read in an unrelated thread that it was due to a "bad browser configuration", although it doesn't specify if at the user's or Microsoft's end. It sometimes happens in other blades and reloading them works, but not with this one.

I tried the latest versions of Chrome, Safari and Firefox on Mac OS X and they all have the same problem. I don't have access to a Windows PC.

Thank you.

Microsoft Azure - Fortinet issue

Hi,

I setup an IPSEC site to site connection between my on premise network and my azure subscription service. I am using a fortigate on my on premise network and have followed numerous guides but have focused mainly on the guide by Fortinet.

When I RDP into my subscription (where i setup a DC ), and ping a server on my on premise network then I can see the server, but vice versa this does not work.

On my fortigate, I have no issues or errors and the VPN state is up. On the Azure side, the connection shows that it is established.

I am using these two guides:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-57vvLIROxk

Fortinet cookbook.

I disabled NAT and I also setup a routing policy on my fortigate to route traffic to the cloud subscription.

Cheers.

Rename existing Network Interface?

Is it possible to rename a network interface? We have resources that were created in the portal, and therefore the network interface names were auto-generated (for example if the vm was created as "frachel-vm", the NIC is "frachel-vm-####" where # is, i assume, random. I'd rather have it being "frachel-vm-nic1" or something. For future ones we'll create the nic's first since you can assign a name, then the vm, but wondering if any way to rename the existing ones?

Thanks.

Cannot access captive portal on azure hosted controller

Hello to all,

I have UniFI Controller hosted on VM on Azure. Everything works perfect except guests cannot access guest portal (captive) so they cannot be provisioned. Inbound security rules are all set but no success. I am pretty sure the problem is in network rules and access to ip addresses. Am I missing something?

Name Source Destination Service

22 192.168.0.16 10.10.0.4 SSH (TCP/22)

8443 Any 10.10.0.4 Custom (TCP/8443)

8080 Any 10.10.0.4 Custom (TCP/8080)

8088 192.168.0.16 10.10.0.4 Custom (TCP/8088)

8843 192.168.0.16 10.10.0.4 Custom (TCP/8843)

3478 192.168.0.16 10.10.0.4 Custom (UDP/3478)

when I enter http://controllerIP:8880/guest/s it opens captive and after acceptance of terms it creates redirection just fine. But I have to enter this address manualy

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Link a VNET to multiple ExpressRoute connections in the same datacentre

$

Good Afternoon,

We presently utilise two ExpressRoute circuits from our provider to our WAN to provide connectivity for ARM and Classic workloads.  Both circuits terminate into the same datacentre and VNET-to-VNET traffic between the two circuits is routed via our firewall on the WAN edge.  We are looking to move the VNET in question to the other circuit and are looking for clarification regarding the requirements and limitations of performing this change.  ER1 is our primary circuit on which ninety percent of our workloads run.  ER2 facilitates connectivity from RemoteApp.

The areas that I require clarification on are;

  • Can we associate the VNET to multiple ExpressRoute circuits in the same region?
  • Will there be an outage to the VNET Gateway connection if we begin advertising the route prefixes on ER1 as a preference over ER2?
  • Are there any other concerns or limitations I should be aware of prior to moving forward?

Thankyou in advance,

Hayden

Cannot delete 2 x NIC's that report still attached to deleted VM (Azure BUG)

$

Hi,

I have 2 x Network interfaces that I cannot delete from Azure. They both state that they are attached to worker nodes that no longer exist (report not found when I click into their names form the NIC screen).I have tried removing them via PowerShell, this fails stating that they are either InUse (try moving them to new VM) or the VM cannot be located (try deleting the VM).

I think this is a bug in Azure that will need someone to diagnose. I do not have premier support so cannot raise a support ticket.

Can you please assign someone to contact me and fix this problem?

Hi, Today we have a critical VM with an public reserved ip in a classic environment with a cloud service. We need to create a new machine in a Resource Group (ARM) and assign the reserved IP from the cloud Service to this new VM. Is this possible ?

What happened to the Gateway tile?

Hi All,

The VPN/gateway tile used to look like this:

http://imgur.com/PYOaHR5

Now I can't seem to get that screen back in newer updates of Resource manager. I liked it because of the visual aspect of clicking on each stage of the gateway.

Is there a way to get this to return in new Resource Manager views?

Thanks,

From @weatherills via Twitter:

"Odd problem with Vnet-Vnet gateway connection, says succeeded but never connected. No errors or status changes. Provisioning state is "succeeded" but Connection Status "not connected"

"no local gateway, 2 vnets, one in uswest, one in uscentral, they never connect, connection shows up in both Vnet01 and Vnet02"

Is it possible to have two Express Routes circuits active on a VNET one time?

From @themadfitz via Twitter

"Hi Support, we currently utilise two express route circuits to connect our classic and arm resources to a single datacentre in Sydney.  Given that we can now manage/share express route for both ARM and Classic resources I have a migration scenario that we require some guidance on.  Is it possible to have both Express Routes circuits active on a VNET one time with our routers controlling which circuit to use by default.  We would look to decommission the secondary circuit once we have successfully attached the VNET to the primary circuit.  is this supported?"

N-tier segmentation for IoT / Big Data architecture

$

I am trying to work out security best practices for IoT architectures.

In your typical N-Tier it's easy enough to have a vNet with multiple segments and NSG's separating the tiers. Traffic manager over the top for regional balancing etc.

But with the IoT PaaS setup it appears some of those devices cannot be associated to network segments.

Is it therefore better to have vNet - vNet gateways to facilitate the following

DMZ / Front / Back end segments?

It feels a little more complicated and cumbersome but achievable. Is there a better solution?

Juniper SRX to Azure vnet -VPN up but ...

$

I am looking for advice / help is determining how to fix my VPN connection between our on premise SRX100H and Azure. I can establish a vpn, but it does not appear to be consistently allowing all traffic.   i.e. sometime RDP sessions through VPN time out or error and other times, RDP is established without issue.

I have looked at both the Script provided on my vnet portal and the Juniper SRX templates provided onhttps://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn133794.aspx

But I don't see what I am doing wrong.

Can someone who has a working Juniper SRX to AZURE vpn setup give me any clues as to what could be  causing the inconsistent traffic across the VPN?
