Azure DC setup issue

I'm trying to stand up an Azure DC, but I'm having trouble setting the static IP. Mind you I'm using the new Azure Portal. Setting the static IP the old fashioned way will kick you from the VM forever and you'll have to start all over (learned this the hard way). Setting the static IP through the portal seems fishy and Windows doesn't detect it when you're trying to add the DNS Server role.

Is there a proper way to do this so that everything goes smoothly? This is making me realize how easy I had it working out of VMWare vCenter.
