Virtual Network not functional after re-enabling Bizspark account (disabled due to spending limit)

Few days ago, our BizSpark subscription was forcibly disabled when the spending limit was reached. After we have re-enabled it (by paying for the extra credits), we could not get our Virtual Network back to working state.

Our Virtual Network is a simple point-to-site VNET (classic) with one Virtual Machine (classic) and a Web App in it.

After our subscription was re-enabled, on the VNET dashboard we could not see the VM as its client any more. There were zero clients, as opposed to one client (the VM) before subscription was disabled. We have tried to re-start both VM and Web App, re-create the gateway, reset subnets and IP addresses, but we just could not make the VM work again. After few hours of experimenting and downtime (!) we have created new VNET and connected the VM and Web App using this new VNET (which involves re-creating the VM), and this has finally helped.

So, my question would be: is there any better solution to this situation? And, is there any option how to prevent this from happening, in the first place?

(Of course, one should look better after the spending limit, but there can always be a range of other problems with payment).
