I have setup the Point-to-Site VPN “fionavnet” using the same DNS “157.54.14.178” as SQL box RR1stocrwsql01, the SQL box can connect “fionavnet” successfully. Then I deploy our test packages on cloud service “fionawestus” which is in the same affinity
group “FionaWestUS” as “fionavnet”, the deployment succeed. I connect the virtual machine RD00155DA9540D in role instance of cloud service “fionaweatus”. On RD00155DA9540D, it can ping SQL box RR1stocrwsql01, but in telnet window it failed to connect the SQL
box saying that “could not open connection on the host”.
The firewall is disabled on the Azure VM and for on-prem the SQL box, it allows the telnet to communicate through firewall. The telnet client is installed on the on-prem SQL box. It can telnet to open the port of Azure VM on the on-prem SQL box, but failed to telnet to the port of on-prem SQL box from the Azure VM.
