Client application is not allowed access to the server

Hi,

I'm having problems connecting to an Azure SQL database from remote WPF clients, over an (Azure Virtual Network) VPN.

We're in the process of building a middle tier but for now they need to access the database directly.  The clients have previously connected successfully when their IP addresses were added to the firewall rules, however they do not have static IPs and I needed to setup a VPN.  I have successfully created and connected to the VPN, but when I try to access the SQL database it reports:

"Cannot open server 'xxxxx' requested by the login. Client with IP address 'xxxxxxx' is not allowed to access the server."

The SQL database was created prior to the Virtual Network (not sure if that matters), although I've selected the "allow Windows Azure Services" firewall option.  The SQL Database is not running on a dedicated VM.  The IP address mentioned in the error is not one I'm familiar with (it's not the assigned VPN client IP).  I tried adding the configured VPN client IP range to the firewall rules but that hasn't helped.

I feel as though I've missed something obvious and would appreciate some help.

Thanks

John
